Dhaka: The Tigers are likely to play an ODI series against the ICC associate Afghanistan in September, ahead of the England tour to Bangladesh for Test and ODI series.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) officials are communicating with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to play their first bilateral ODI series against Bangladesh in Dhaka next month.

‘We are in talks with the BCB to play the series next month, but we are yet to sign the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU),’ UNB quoted ACB media manager Aziz Gharwal as saying.

‘We have still not set any dates for the matches, but we will soon publish the dates on our website,’ Aziz Gharwal added.

On the other part, the chairman of the BCB cricket operations Akram Khan said, ‘We are still in talks with them (ACB), but we cannot confirm anything at the moment.’

If the series is confirmed, the Tigers’ will play their first ODI match, since November 2015. In 2016, Bangladesh have only played T20 Internationals.

In their previous two ODI meetings, Bangladesh defeated Afghanistan by 105 runs in the World Cup 2015, but lost by 32 runs in the first meeting in Asia Cup in 2014.

In their only T20I battle, Bangladesh outplayed Afghanistan by 9 wickets in World T20I 2014 in Mirpur.

The series is expected to be completed before English cricket team is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on 30 September, to play three ODI’s and two Test matches in October.

The ODIs are scheduled to start on 7 October, while the two-Test series on 20 October.
