Bangladesh will provide with tight protection — by snipers and tanks — to the visiting England cricket team on its upcoming tour.

The Mail Online reported that concerned players will be overseen by a security operation supported by the Bangladesh Army and police force, that will ensure a ‘ring of steel’ around their hotels in Dhaka and Chittagong.

Australia refused to tour Bangladesh last October due to fears of a terrorist attack and a couple of English players — including one-day captain Eoin Morgan — have apparently opted out of the tour.

The Mail Online wrote that ‘covert snipers’ will be positioned around the team’s hotels, and staff individually vetted. ‘Players will not be permitted to leave team hotels, apart from for training and on match days, with the team coach set to be closely guarded by Bangladesh police,’ the story said.

‘The safety and security of players and management are always paramount — whenever and wherever any of our teams are travelling,’ an English Cricket Board spokesperson was quoted as saying.

‘Ahead of the Bangladesh tour the ECB received a thorough, in-depth risk assessment from our Director of Security, with a detailed briefing on security commitments.

‘Intelligence and insight is drawn from a wide range of sources — including government agencies, military and security services.’
