Shakib’s 15th five-wicket haul
Dhaka: World number-2 Test all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan picked up five wickets in an innings for the 15th time, first-ever among Bangladesh’s bowlers, in this format when his side playing the giant English in the 2nd innings on day-3 in a thrilling 1st Test at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong on Saturday.
Shakib is the world’s 38th cricketer to have taken at least 5 wickets in an innings 15 times.
Shakib also maintained his record as the highest wicket-taker for his country. He now has 154 wickets in 43 Tests, with best figures of 7/36 against New Zealand in 2008 also in Chittagong. He is followed by another left-arm spinner, retired all-rounder Mohammad Rafique with 100 wickets from 33 matches.
Shakib grabbed five wickets in innings thrice against Zimbabwe, twice against South Africa, West Indies, Sri Lanka, England and New Zealand while for once against India and Pakistan each.
Shakib started his show in the innings dismissing opening batsman Ben Duckett. The spin wizard’s other victims on the day were dangerman Ben Stokes, Joe Root, Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid. Currently his figures are 5/79 off 31 overs. He also bagged 2/46 in 19 overs in the English first innings.
England have a 273-run lead with two wickets in hand in the 2nd innings after the 3rd day’s play.
