Rangpur Riders outplay Khulna Titans

Dhaka: Rangpur Riders secured their second successive victory in the fourth Bangladesh Premier League outplaying Khulna Titans by nine wickets in their second league tussle at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Thursday.

Chasing the BPL lowest-ever target of 45, Riders took only 44 minutes to reach their destination in 8 overs losing only one wicket, featuring five boundaries and one six. 

Mohammad Shahzad (13) was caught and bowled by Junaid Khan at 16/1 in 2.5 overs while Mohammad Mithun and Soumya Sarkar played till the end to add unbeaten 15 and 13 runs respectively. 

Junaid Khan conceded 14 runs in two overs for the lone wicket. 

Earlier, sent in to bat first, Khulna Titans were dismally packed for the lowest-ever BPL score of 44/10 in 10.4 overs within 56 minutes.

Shuvagata Hom (12 off 8b; 2x4) was the only double figure scorer for Titans.

Five batsmen -- Nur Alam (8), Ariful Haque (7), opener Abdul Mazid (6), Riki Wessels (5) and skipper Mahmudullah (2) added single-figure score while four other batsmen -- Nicholas Pooran, Alok Kapali, Junaid Khan and Mohammad Asghar - returned to he pavilion with duck.

Spin bowler Arafat Sunny stunned Titans batters claiming three wickets in 16 balls without conceding any run.

Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi claimed four wickets for economic 12 runs in two overs and was adjudged man of the match.

Sohag Gazi and Richard Gleeson took one wicket each for 6 and 14 runs in one and two overs.

Sohag Gazi bowled out Titans opening batsman Nicholas Pooran in the innings very 2nd delivery to make the first breakthrough at 1/1 and later on one could stay for long. 

On Friday, defending champions Comilla Victorians will face Barisal Bulls in their 2nd league battle staring at 2:30 pm while Dhaka Dynamites will play Rajshahi Kings scheduled to start at 7:15pm.

Comilla Victorians, Rajshahi Kings and Barisal Bulls will play for their first victory while Dhaka Dynamites will take the ground aiming to the 2nd successive win.
