Rajshahi beat Dhaka by 6 wkts for 1st win in BPL
Dhaka: Rajshahi Kings beat Dhaka Dynamites by six wickets in their 2nd tussle of the 4th Bangladesh Premier League at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Friday.
Kings chased down the target of 139 runs at the cost of 4 wickets in 18.1 overs on the way to their first victory in the seven-team franchised tournament that was propelled by an impressive partnership of 73 runs in 8.2 overs between Samit Patel and Sabbir Rahman in the 4th wicket stand.
Starting from 65/3 in 9.5 overs, the 4th pair ended up at 138/4 in 18.1 overs as the number-3 batsman Sabbir was caught by Kumar Sangakkara off Mohammad Shahid bowling.
Patel stayed for unbeaten 44 off 25 balls, including six boundaries and one six, while Sabbir played 39 balls firing three boundaries for 31 runs.
Umar Akmal scored 27 runs while Rony Talukdar added 14 runs.
Abu Jayed, skipper Shakib Al Hasan and Mohammad Shahid took one wicket each for 14, 18 and 28 runs respectively.
Earlier, sent into bat first, Dhaka Dynamites scored 138 for 5 in 20 overs with Mosaddek Hossain unbeaten knock of 59 runs.
Besides his individual score, Mosaddek stayed with Ravi Bopara in the 5th pair to contribute 54 in 8.4 overs.
Starting from 43/4 in 7.1 overs, the 5th pair ended up at 97/5 in 15.5 overs as Bopara was caught by Samit Patel off Abul Hasan bowling.
After Bopara's dismissal, Mosaddek continued his composure till the end with Dwayne Bravo for an unbeaten figure of 41 in 4.1 overs in the 6th wicket that carried the team total to the final score.
Mosaddek played 46 balls to fire six boundaries and one six for his unbeaten figure while opener Mehedi Maruf (25), Bopara (20), Bravo (not out 13) and Mahela Jayawardene (11) were the other double figure scorers for Dynamites.
Claiming two wickets each, Rajshahi Kings bowlers Mehedi Hasan Miraz and Samit Patel shook Dhaka Dynamites top order early.
Sensational young all-rounder Miraz bowled out Kumar Sangakkara to make the first breakthrough in the Dynamites batting castle at 13/1 in 2 overs while sent number-4 batsman Shakib Al Hasan back to the pavilion with duck at 43/2 in 6.4 overs.
Patel dismissed Jayawardene in his 4th ball of the 2nd over at 43/2 in 6.4 overs keeping the Dynamites on the same figure. Patel departed opener Mehedi Maruf in the last ball of the same.
Bowling four overs each, Miraz and Patel conceded 22 and 20 runs respectively. Abul Hasan took one for 30 runs also in four overs.
