Sammy holds out hope for hapless Rajshahi
Chittagong: West Indian all-rounder Darren Sammy, the only foreign captain of a franchise in this year's BPL, still believes his team Rajshahi Kings will reach the playoffs this season.
"We still believe we could make it through to the play-off stage", Sammy said while he talked to some sports journalists on Sunday after a couple of hour practice session at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium where they will face table-toppers Dhaka Dynamites on Monday at 1 pm.
Despite Rajshahi having lost four out of five outings, Sammy remains optimistic to do better in the meet as their only victory with six-wicket margin came against the topper Dhaka Dynamites, which secured four wins in six matches.
Sammy expressed his optimism saying, "We will play against Dhaka tomorrow (Monday). They are the only team we beat in the competition. That is the motivation for us."
Replying to a query Sammy said, "We are not playing well. We are not getting the results as per we need and we are much better team than the results. Our fielding side is not up to the mark. We did not bat well to put pressure on the oppositions. Everybody has to step up, especially our overseas players."
Sammy praised his batsman Sabbir Rahman, who scored 203 runs in five matches for his side including the only century of the ongoing league making 122 runs
"Sabbir is our leading batsman. He is scoring runs for us, but cricket is a team sport and we cannot rely on just one person," Sammy concluded.
