All-round Miraz sinks Rangpur

Dhaka: Mehedi Hasan Miraz’s all-round performance helped Rajshahi Kings secure their 5th victory in the 4th Bangladesh Premier League beating Rangpur Riders by 49 runs at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Monday. 

Day’s man of the match, Miraz bagged two wickets for 12 runs in two overs apart from his quick-firing 41 while batting. 

With this win, Rajshahi advanced one step to take the 4th slot in the points table by virtue of more run rate, collecting 10 points from nine encounters, having five wins and four loses. 

With their 4th loss, Rangpur slipped to the 5th slot also collecting 10 points from nine matches. 

In the day’s match, chasing a target of 129, Rangpur finished the innings on 79 for all in 17.4 overs. 

Mohammad Mithun stayed for team highest 20 off 21 balls, including two boundaries, while opener Mohammad Shahzad was another double digit scorer with 12 runs. 

Nazmul Islam claimed three wickets for economic eight runs in four overs while Abul Hasan also captured three wickets for 11 runs in 2.4 overs. 

Mohammad Sami and Samit Patel took one wicket each for 7 and 18 runs respectively in three and four overs. 

Batting first after winning the toss, Rajshahi Kings collected 128 for 7 in 20 overs riding on the unbeaten 8th wicket stand of 85 runs between Farhad Reza and Mehedi Hasan Miraz. 

Reza and Miraz played 10.4 overs for their unbeaten contribution starting from 43/7 in 9.2 overs.

Reza fired two boundaries and two over boundaries off 32 balls for 44 runs while Miraz faced 33 balls for 41, including three boundaries and one six. 

Number-3 batsman Sabbir Rahman was another double figure scorer with 16 runs. 

Arafat Sunny captured three wickets for 31 runs while Shahid Afridi bagged two wickets for 10 runs, both bowled four overs each. 

Delivering four overs each, Liam Dawson and Rubel Hossain took one wicket apiece for 27 and 38 runs.
