Comilla topple Barisal

Dhaka: A dazzling opening pair stand of 93 runs between Ahmed Shehzad and Imrul Kayes spurred the bottom-placed Comilla Victorians to secure an eight-wicket win against Barisal Bulls in a dead-rubber game of the 4th Bangladesh Premier League T20 at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Tuesday.

This is the 2nd win for defending champion Comilla and 3rd loses for Barisal in the seven-team double league basis franchised tournament, from where both sides were out of the race of top four involving Play-off stage.

Comilla played out nine games to collect four-points, with two wins and seven loses, while penultimate slot holders Barisal collected six-point from 10 outings, having three wins and seven loses.

In the day's match, chasing a target of 143, Comilla reached their destination scoring 145 for 2 in 19 overs riding on the opening pair stand of 93 in 12.5 overs between Ahmed Shehzad and Imrul Kayes.

Pakistani top order batsman Ahmed Shehzad hammered a half century of 61 while opener Imrul Kayes fell short of four runs for another fifty scoring 46 runs.

Kayes faced 35 balls to fire six boundaries and one six, before he was caught by Kamrul Islam Rabbi off Dawid Malan bowling to depart from opening stand.

Shehzad played 56 balls for five boundaries and was caught by Mushfiqur Rahim off Rumman Raees bowling at 120/2 in 17 overs.

Number-3 batsman Malon Samuels scored unbeaten 27 while Khalid Latif added another unbeaten 7 runs for the side.

Dawid Malan and Rumman Raees took one wicket each for 8 and 38 runs respectively.

Barisal scored 142 for 8 in 20 overs with skipper Mushfiqur Rahim top-scoring 29 off 23 balls, including one four and one six.

Jeevan Mendis scored 28 runs while Enamul Haque (unbeaten 20), Abu Hider (unbeaten 16), Taijul Islam (14) and Shahriar Nafees (11) were the other double figure scorers for the side, elected to bat first after winning the toss.

Man of the match 'Nabil Samad' captured three wickets for economic 17 runs in his four-over spin bowling.

Rashid Khan bagged two wickets for 21 runs in four overs while Shahadat Hossain and Mohammad Saifuddin took one wicket each.
