Comilla continue futile winning streak

Dhaka: West Indies top-order batsman Marlon Samuels's unbeaten half century of 69 helped Comilla Victorians to achieve a five-wicket victory against Khulna Titans in their 11th tussle of the 4th Bangladesh Premier League T20 at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Friday.

This is Comilla's 4th win from 11 games in the seven-team double league system franchised tournament which created the way uneven for upper-runner Khulna Titans to stay in the race of final-four team Play-off stage.

Despite the day's loss, Khulna maintaining their previous position of 3rd in the points table with 12 points from 11 games, having six wins and five loses, behind Chittagong Vikings also collected 12 points, but from 10 games.

Table topper Dhaka Dynamites collected 14 points from 10 encounters.

Both, Dhaka and Chittagong sides still have two games to play to stay in the race of their final-four.

Rajshahi Kings and Rangpur Riders can change the picture of last four-team. Rajshahi is in the 4th place, by virtue of more run rate, collecting 10 points from 11 outings, followed by Rangpur with same points, but from 10 encounters. 

In the day's match, Comilla chased down a target of 142 for 5 in 18.4 overs, powered by the two partnership figures of unbeaten 42 in the 6th wicket and 49 runs in the 2nd wicket stand where Samuels stayed in both wickets with number-7 batsman Liton Kumar Das and opener Imrul Kayes respectively.

The 6th pair started from 100/5 in 15 overs and played 3.4 overs to stay till the end for their winning collection.

Opening batsman Ahmed Shehzad was out for duck in the fifth ball of the innings very first over when Comilla's collection was only one.

Then, Samuels and Kayes stayed in the 2nd wicket to repair the early destruction carrying the team total to 50/2 in 7.5 overs, before Kayes was caught by Shuvagata Hom off Shafiul Islam bowling. 

Man of the match Samuels fired eight boundaries off 57 balls for his unbeaten half century while Liton enthralled with five boundaries off 11 balls to add another unbeaten figure of 24 runs in the end.

Mashrafe Bin Mortaza added 20 off 11 balls, hammering three over boundaries, while Kayes added run-a-ball 20 for the side, already out of the race of Play-off stage.

Benny Howell captured two wickets for 25 runs in four overs. Mosharraf Hossain, Junaid Khan and Shafiul Islam took one wicket each for 21, 24 and 46 runs respectively. 

Sent into bat first, Khulna collected 141 for six wickets in 20 overs, spurred by the skipper Mahmudullah Riyad's unbeaten figure of 40 off 38 balls, including four boundaries.

Opening batsman Hasanuzzaman scored 29 off 26 balls, involving two boundaries and one over boundary, while Abdul Mazid(18), Nicholas Pooran (14), Ariful Haque (13) and Benny Howell (not out 12) were the other double figure scorers for the side.

Defending champion Comilla Victorians skipper Mashrafe destroyed three wickets for economic 16 runs in four overs. 

Delivering four overs each, Mohammad Sharif, Mohammad Saifuddin and Rashid Khan took one wicket apiece for 27, 31 and 33 runs respectively.
