Pacer Rubel replaces injured Shahid
Dhaka: Replacing injured Mohammad Shahid, pace bowler Rubel Hossain has been included in the 22-man Bangladesh squad that will train in Sydney, Australia from December 11, as part of the Tigers’ preparation before tour to New Zealand.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) media release on Monday confirmed Rubel’s inclusion in the Tigers squad.
Rubel last played for the national side in an ODI against Afghanistan in September 25, but was dropped from the squad for the next two games of the three-match series, due to his lack of match fitness.
Rubel took 15 wickets in 12 matches at average 21.06 in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) for eliminated franchise Rangpur Riders.
Shahid injured his right knee during Dhaka Dynamites' BPL encounter against Comilla Victorians on November 26.
BCB’s chief physician Debashish Chowdhury confirmed that Shahid suffered a partial Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) tear. A decision on whether he will need surgery could be taken later this month.
Bangladesh will play a full-fledged away series against New Zealand, involving three ODI, three T20I and two Test matches, staring on December 26.
