Sammy hopes to lift maiden title for Rajshahi
Dhaka: Rajshahi Kings skipper Darren Sammy is optimistic to win the much-anticipated final game of the 4th BPL T20 against mighty Dhaka Dynamites, scheduled to be held at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Friday.
“Hopefully we will come out victorious. In order to do that we have to field well, continue to bowl well and definitely bat better,” Sammy came up with optimism when talking to journalists in Mirpur ahead of the final game on Thursday.
The West Indian all-rounder, who is the only foreign captain in this edition’s BPL, continued saying, “I said to my team mates, we have not played our best….probably we are waiting for the finals to give our best.”
Sammy said despite Dhaka “enjoying the majority of support”, he hopes for an excellent game as there are some very vocal supporters of Rajshahi as well in all their games. He expects the Kings fans to be well-represented as well.
Meanwhile Dhaka Dynamites all-rounder and key player Nasir Hossain said the final is “always a big game” and expects both sides to feel the same pressure.
Agreeing that Rajshahi is a strong opponent, Nasir wants his side to focus on producing their best performance by cutting down on mistakes in the final.
“Those who will make fewer mistakes, they will win the final. We need to play our best on the ground,” he added.
Replying to a query Nasir said, “It is not correct that we are under pressure as we lost two games against them. Now our main focus is on performing with ball and bat according to a plan.”
The final of the seven-franchise tournament will begin at 5:45 pm.
Dhaka will look forward to their 3rd BPL title victory, and first under new franchisee (the previous two in 2012 and 2013, were as Dhaka Gladiators), while Rajshahi will take the ground as first time finalists.
