BCB XI suffer defeat to Sydney Thunder

Dhaka: Bangladesh Cricket Board XI suffered a six-wicket defeat to Sydney Thunder in the second and final T20 practice match held on Friday at Spotless Stadium.

Chasing a winning target of 123 runs set by Bangladesh, Sydney Thunder easily reached home for the loss of four wickets. Earlier, wicketkeeper-batsman Nurul Hasan made a quick-fire 35 as Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) XI scored recovered from early digester to score 122-8 from their allotted 20 overs, after BCB XI won the toss and opted to bat first. Four tigers batsmen- Tamim Iqbal, Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmudullah and Mashrafe Bin Mortaza - did not take part in the match.

BCB XI faced serious batting debacle and lost their seven wickets in just 76 runs in the face of tight bowling display by the Sydney Thunder bowlers. However Hasan rescued Bangladesh from total embarrassment with a priceless 35 runs that studded three fours and a six while Shuvogata supported him with a useful contribution of 25 that featured one four.

Earlier, opener Imrul Kayes backed to the dressing room in the very first over off a Pat Cummins short ball. Saumya Sarkar (3), who starred in a seven-wicket win in the first practice game against Sydney Sixers, soon followed footprint of Kayes, leaving BCB XI at 2-8 after two overs.

Sabbir Rahman also lasted a little on the pitch, ensuring that there would be no top-order fireworks at 3-13.

Mosaddek Hossain and Mushfiqur Rahim however tried to rebuild the dilapidated innings but once Mushfiqur was holed out in the deep, BCB XI were reduced to 21 for 4. When Mosaddek was out for 13, the visitor lost half of their wickets for only 28. They were reduced to 7-76 in the 15th over. 

Earlier, BCBC XI beat Sydney Sixers by seven wickets in the first practice match.

Bangladesh will start their New Zealand campaign with a three-match ODI series starting from December 26.
