Tigers look to keep ODI series alive
Eying to stay alive in the three-match ODI series, Mushfiqur Rahim-less Bangladesh will face hosts New Zealand in the 2nd match at Saxton Oval in Nelson on Thursday.
The match will begin at 4:00am (Bangladesh time).
Mushfiqur Rahim will miss the game due to a hamstring injury he suffered during the 1st match at Christchurch on Monday. He retired hurt after scoring 42.
Nurul Hasan will make his ODI debut as keeper to carry out duties behind the stumps replacing wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur. He will become the 5th wicketkeeper to feature in ODIs for Bangladesh after Mushfiqur Rahim in 2006, reports UNB.
Dhiman Ghosh, Jahurul Islam, Anamul Haque and Liton Das — all came in as replacement when Mushfiqur got injured in different times.
There might be one more change in Mahsrafe Bin Mortaza’s camp with the inclusion of either Mehedi Hasan or Tanbir Hayder to strengthen the bowling line-up on a comparatively slower Nelson pitch — meaning Soumya Sarkar is at risk to lose his place.
Miraz did not play ODI yet while Tanveer Hayder is yet to make debut in any format of international event for the national side.
Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan will once again have to put up resistance against the short ball after Christchurch. Mosaddek Hossain, Imrul Kayes and Sabbir Rahman also looked relatively comfortable against that length in the series opener, but must be more patient to show their dashing mood.
The Black Caps must aim to seal the series win having the 77-run victory in the first match.
The hosts are unlikely to rest Tim Southee and Trent Boult which would mean that Matt Henry and Colin de Grandhomme would have to keep waiting for their turn.
Bangladesh squad (probable): Tamim Iqbal, Imrul Kayes, Mahmudullah Riyad, Shakib Al Hasan, Sabbir Rahman, Mosaddek Hossain, Nurul Hasan (wicketkeeper), Mehedi Hasan Miraz/Tanveer Hayder, Mashrafe Bin Mortaza (captain), Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed.
New Zealand squad (probable): Martin Guptill, Tom Latham, Kane Williamson (captain), Neil Broom, James Neesham, Colin Munro, Luke Ronchi
