Injury sidelines Mushfiq for two weeks
Dhaka: Bangladesh Test cricket skipper Mushfiqur Rahim has been sidelined from the squad due to a hamstring injury that he received during the 1st match of three-match ODI series against New Zealand at Christchurch on Monday last.
Mushfiqur underwent an MRI in Nelson on Thursday and the scan report confirmed a Grade 1 tear which is a moderate damage and could take around two more weeks to recover, confirmed a media release from Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Thursday.
Bangladesh cricket team physio Dean Conway said, "We've received the radiologist's report and it shows a minor tear of the left hamstring. This is a moderate damage in nature....it could take him around two weeks starting from the day of the injury to recover.”
“However, we may ease him into training at some stage over the next few days,” he added
"At the moment our priority is to get him fit for the Test series. We'll continue to assess and monitor him to see how he is responding to the rehab," he said.
The two-week repose means that Mushfiqur will miss the 3rd ODI, billed for December 31, against the Kiwis as well as the three-match T20I series starting on January 3, 2017. The 2nd and 3rd T20Is will be held on January 6 and 8.
The Test skipper can appeare in the two-match Test series for the national side as the 1st Test will start on January 12 while the 2nd one on January 20.
