Black Caps beat Tigers in first T20
Dhaka: New Zealand took a 1-0 series lead in the three-match T20I series outplaying touring Bangladesh by six wickets with 12 balls remaining in the 1st match at McLean Park, Napier on Tuesday.
Chasing a target of 142 runs, New Zealand reached their destination scoring 143 for 4 in 18 overs with skipper Kane Williamson's knock of unbeaten 73 off 55 balls, including five boundaries and two over boundaries.
Colin de Grandhomme who hit another unbeaten figure of 41 off 22 balls with three boundaries and three over boundaries for the side, drew the winning line hammering a six in the innings last ball off pacer Rubel Hossain.
Man of the match Williamson and Grandhomme paired in the 5th wicket to contribute unbeaten 81 in 7.5 overs which carried the team total to winning figure starting from 62/4 in 10.1 overs.
Corey Anderson (13) was another double figure scorer on the way to New Zealand's 5th victory all in a row against Bangladesh; a side never tasted a win against New Zealand in the shortest format of cricket since 2010.
Rubel Hossain who appeared in this game for Bangladesh after around 28 months break in T20 international, made the first breakthrough in the New Zealand batting castle dismissing opener Neil Broom, was caught by Shakib Al Hasan, at 22/1 in 2.3 overs.
Delivering quota four overs each, Mustafizur Rahman, Shakib Al Hasan and Rubel took one wicket apiece for 21, 30 and 43 runs respectively.
Earlier, Mahmudullah Riyad hammered a half century of 52 runs that helped Bangladesh score 141/8 in 20 overs against New Zealand.
On the way to 3rd T20I half century, Mahmudullah fired three boundaries and three over boundaries off 47 balls, before being bowled out by Lockie Ferguson when the team collection was at 138/8 in 19.2 overs.
Mosaddek Hossain scored 20 off 17 balls, including tow over boundaries, while Sabbir Rahman (16), all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan (14) and opener Tamim Iqbal (11) were the other double figure scorer for the side, elected to bat first after winning the toss.
Delivering four overs each, Lockie Ferguson captured three wickets for 32 runs; Ben Wheeler took two wickets for 22 runs while Mitchell Santner, Colin de Grandhomme and Matt Henry took one wicket apiece conceding 20, 23 and 44 runs respectively.
The 2nd and 3rd T20Is will be held at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui on January 6 and 8 respectively.
