Roger Federer has made an emotional tribute to his wife Mirka after claiming his 18th grand slam title with victory at the Australian Open. Roger Federer has many fans all over the world but there is only one who matters to him.

One day after winning his fifth title at Melbourne Park, Federer heaped praise on his 'No.1 fan'.

After his win over Rafael Nadal which saw Federer clinch the Australian Open, the Swiss maestro was quick to thank her for all the support she has given over the years.

"She was there when I had no titles and she's still here 89 titles later," Federer said on Monday.

"She had a big part to play in it – she knows it, I know it, everybody knows it.

The Swiss Maestro gladly puts his tennis career to the side when it comes to his marriage.

"She's a mum and wife first and only later does she become the supporter," he said.

"I'm just happy she's my wife and she's my No.1 supporter."

Mirka was the first person Federer saw when he made his way off court after his incredible five-set triumph on Sunday night.

The husband and wife shared a beautiful moment together as Federer made his way behind the scenes at Rod Laver Arena carrying the Norman Brookes Challenge Cup.

Roger and Mirka have been married since 2009. They have four children together - identical twin girls, Myla and Charlene, and twin boys Leo and Lenny.

Federer said his victory was all the more special because he could share it (albeit briefly) with his family.

"It was amazing half-hour (with them)," he enthused.

Federer has maintained that family comes first for him and tennis takes a backseat in that situation.

The win over Nadal was Federer's 18th Grand Slam and first since Wimbledon 2012.
