Kohli, Vijay’s centuries lead India

Dhaka: India at stumps collecting 356/3 in the first innings on day one spurred by two centuries of skipper Virat Kohli and opener Murali Vijay against Bangladesh in the one-off Test at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on Thursday.

Batting first after winning the toss, India played 90 overs for their collection riding on the two solid partnership contributions of 122(not out) in the 4th wicket and 178 in the 2nd wicket.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli was at stumps firing 12 boundaries off 141 balls for his 16th Test century of 111 runs while Ajinkya Rahane was batting on 45 runs to resume the innings with the skipper on the 2nd day.

Murali Vijay who was bowled out by spinner Taijul Islam at 234/3 in 63.4 overs, hammered his 9th Test century of 108 off 160 balls, including 12 boundaries and one six.

Pujara got an astonishing lifeline in 18.3 overs as Mehedi Hasan Miraz muffled up an easy run-out chance to depart him when India’s collection 68/1.

Miraz delivered to Pujara who took an attempt to take a single after flicking the delivery but Kamrul Islam Rabbi was at square leg area got the ball diving to his left and throw it to the bowler Miraz in front of the stumps, but Miraz couldn’t collect in time. 

After Murali Vijay’s departure, Ajinkya Rahane came to pair Kholi in the 4th wicket that played 26.2 overs and remained till the end for their day one collection.

Taskin Ahmed made an early breakthrough for Bangladesh bowling out Indian opener Lokesh Rahul (2) in the very 4th ball of the innings with scoreboard showing just two runs for one wicket in 4 balls.

Cheteshwar Pujara came to pair Murali Vijay in the 2nd wicket and repaired the early dent playing a century plus innings in 50.1 overs to carry the team total to 180/2 in 50.5 overs, before Pujara was caught behind by skipper Mushfiqur Rahim off spinner Mehedi Hasan Miraz bowling. Pujara stayed for 83 off 177 balls, including nine boundaries.

Taijul Islam, Taskin Ahmed and Mehedi Hasan Miraz took one wicket each for 50, 58 and 93 runs respectively.

India 1st innings: 356/3 in 90 overs, at stumps; Virat Kohli batting 111, Murali Vijay 108, Cheteshwar Pujara 83, Ajinkya Rahane batting 45, Taijul Islam 1/50, Taskin Ahmed 1/58, Mehedi Hasan Miraz 1/93.
