Bangladesh women pound Scotland

Dhaka: Bangladesh Women’s cricket team sealed a 7-wicket victory against Scotland in their Group B match of the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier at Colombo Cricket Club Ground, Sri Lanka on Friday.

Scotland women were all out for 140 runs in 49.1 overs, where top scorer Kari Anderson contribution was 28 runs.

Besides, Olivia Rae (16), Kathryn Bryce (17), Rachel Scholes (14), Fiona Urquhart (12), Kirstie Gordon (10) and  Katie McGill (11) were the other double figure scorers for the side.

Khadija Tul Kubra and Salma Khatun captured three wickets each for 31 and 21 runs respectively while Bangladesh skipper Rumana Ahmed took two and Panna Ghosh and Jahanara Alam bagged one each to blow out Scottish batting line.

In reply, Bangladesh reached the target, keeping seven wickets and 75 balls in hands, with the help of Fargana Hoque’s unbeaten half century and Rumana Ahmed’s captain’s knock 38 runs (not out).

Fargana faced 109 balls for 53 including eight boundaries while Rumana 46 balls for 38 runs, firing six boundaries each in their innings. 

To collect two points from two outings, Bangladesh started their group campaign with a huge 118-run victory against Papua New Guinea, followed by a 67-run defeat against Pakistan in the 2nd match. 

Bangladesh will play their last group match against South Africa at Paikiasothy Saravanamuttu Oval, Colombo on February 11.

Bangladesh must stay in the top three teams of their Group B to stay in the race of super-six battles.
