Sunil Joshi new spin bowling coach of Bangladesh?
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has been looking for a spin bowling coach since Sri Lankan Ruan Kalpage was dismissed. Since then, several names have been heard for the post. Former Indian spinner Sunil Joshi is the latest name added to the list.
According to xtratime.in, ‘The former India left arm spinner is all set to be appointed on the advice of India coach Anil Kumble.’
Quoting former Bangladesh captain and currently the Director of Cricket Operations of BCB, Akram Khan, the website reports, ‘We are likely to complete all the formalities in a couple of days before the test match [in Hyderabad] gets over. Actually it was Anil Kumble, who referred Sunil Joshi’s name to us to coach our young spinners.’
If the report is to be believed, Joshi will be appointed before the series against Sri Lanka, which follows immediately after the test match against India.
Bangladesh is scheduled to tour to Sri Lanka to play two test matches and five ODIs.
‘Joshi, who earlier coached Oman during the T20 World Cup in India last year, has been roped in as the spin bowling consultant.’
The 46-year-old Joshi has previously coached Ranji teams such as Assam, Hyderabad and Jammu and Kashmir, will take charge of Bangladesh spinners after the tour of India..
Joshi was part of the Indian team, which played against Bangladesh in their maiden test match in 2000. Joshi was the top scorer for India as he scored 92 runs to help India post a massive 429 runs.
‘Joshi, who played 15 Tests and 69 One Day Internationals, achieved one of the biggest upsets in Ranji Trophy history when Jammu and Kashmir, under his guidance, stunned Mumbai.’
‘Bangladesh Cricket Board is also in talks with former South African cricketer Jonty Rhodes to be their fielding coach. Rhodes, who is associated with Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Mumbai Indians as a fielding coach will take over the role shortly. The South African will occasionally visit Bangladesh to guide the Bangladesh cricketers with their fielding skill.’
