Defending champions Abahani moves to Sk Kamal Int'l Club Cup semis

Chittagong: Defending champion Chittagong Abahani Ltd confirmed their semifinals berth in the 2nd edition of the Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup football tournament after a 2-2 draw against Manang Marshyangdi Club of Nepal in their Group B match at MA Aziz Stadium on Friday.

Bouncing back from behind, host Ctg Abahani dramatically leveled the margin with their defender Nasir Uddin Chowdhury and Haitian forward Augustin Walson scoring one goal each.

In the day’s match, Zambian forward Afeez Olawale Oladipo of Manang Marshyangdi headed the ball home from close range in the very 3rd minute, making the score line 1-0.

Oladipo shrugged off his marker Abahani defender Nasiruddin Chowdhury fired the net again into the far post in the 22nd minute to extend the lead by 2-0.

Nasir headed home the ball in the 32nd to reduce the gape 2-1.

Haitian forward Walson converted a spot kick in the 63rd minute to level the margin 2-2.  

Ctg Abahani, collected five points from three outings having one win and two draws, started their group campaign with 3-1 victory against Shaheen Asmayee FC (Afghanistan) and played a goalless draw against Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club in the 2nd match.  

Manang earned four points to complete their group campaign, having one wins, one draw and one loss.
