Sri Lanka Cricket President’s XI skipper Dinesh Chandimal played an unbeaten innings of 190 runs against Bangladesh in the two-day warm-up match that ended in a draw at Tyronne Fernando Stadium, Moratuwa on Friday. 

With this only tour-match, the Tigers warmed-up well with bat and ball ahead of the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, scheduled to be held at Galle International Stadium and at P Sara Oval in Colombo respectively.

The first Test will begin on March 7 while the 2nd one — Bangladesh’s 100th in the format — will start on March 15.

The batting force of Bangladesh collected 391/7-declared in 90 overs in their innings on day one with opener Tamim Iqbal and Mominul Haque retiring out for 136 and 73 runs respectively. Wicket-keeper batsman Liton Kumar Das hammered unbeaten 57 while Mahmudullah Riyad added 43 runs.  

In the day’s play, Lankan President’s XI opened the innings and collected 403/7 in 90 overs where Dinesh Chandimal played an eye-catching unbeaten innings of 190 off 253 balls, including 21 boundaries and seven over boundaries.

Chandimal who is in the 15-man Lankan squad for the Test series against Bangladesh, started his composures from 12/2 in 3.5 overs and played till the end denying the Tigers’ bowling attacks.

In the 8th wicket, Chandimal and Chamika Karunaratne contributed unbeaten 112 in 12 overs for their final collection, starting from 291/7 in 78 overs. Karunaratne fired 50 off 42 balls, including seven boundaries and two over boundaries.

Number-five batsman Roshen Silva scored 38 runs while Rumesh Buddika (32), PWH de Silva (32), Leo Fransisco (27) and opener Ron Chandraguptha (20) were the other double figure scorers for the side.

Taskin Ahmed, who captured three wickets conceding 170 runs against India in the one off Hyderabad in last month, roared with pace attacks in the match for 3/41 in 11 overs. 

Cutter master Mustafizur Rahman, who last played for national side in a Test against South Africa in August 2015, back in action bagging two wickets for economic 28 runs in 12 overs.

Part-time bowler Soumya Sarkar and young spinner Mehedi Hasan Miraz took one wicket each for 53 and 68 runs respectively.
