Bangalore: Australia were 237 for six at stumps on day two of the second Test in Bangalore on Sunday, leading India by 48 runs in the first innings.

Shaun Marsh (66) and Matt Renshaw (60) struck gritty half-centuries for the visitors as Indian left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja claimed three wickets.

Mathew Wade (25) and Mitchell Starc (14) were at the crease for Australia, who lead the four-match series 1-0.

Left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja led India’s spirited attack against Australia as the visitors endured a tough session despite a fighting half-century from Matt Renshaw on day two of the second Test on Sunday.

India’s pace spearhead Ishant Sharma trapped Mitchell Marsh lbw for nought at the stroke of tea with Australia at 163 for five. Shaun Marsh was batting on 38.

Jadeja, who got the prize scalp of skipper Steve Smith in the morning session, got two more wickets, putting the visitors through their paces as they trail by 26 runs.

Renshaw, who started the day on 15, put up stubborn resistance with his 196-ball 60 before falling to Jadeja’s spin at Bangalore’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Renshaw put on a crucial 52-run stand with Marsh to keep the Indian attack temporarily at bay as runs came at a miserly rate of roughly two an over.

The left-handed opener looked ready to accelerate after hitting Jadeja for the first six of the match, but the bowler got his revenge two balls later.

Jadeja saw Renshaw emerge from his crease and fired the ball down the leg side as wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha completed the stumping in quick time.

It remained a tight morning session after the visitors lost two of their top batsmen in David Warner (33) and skipper Steve Smith (8).

While Ashwin bowled Warner early in the day, while Smith battled hard for 52 deliveries before being caught behind off a wily Jadeja.
