Dhaka: Hadn’t he born, Bangladesh cricket team would have deprived of many outstanding victories.

Number one all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who demonstrated his magical batting and bowling displays many times to ensure victories for the Tigers, stepped into 31st year on Friday.

However, he was celebrating his birthday with his teammates in Sri Lanka as the Tigers will take on the hosts on Saturday in the 1st ODI of the three-match series.

Born on March 24 in 1987 in Magura, Shakib started his international career with ODI on Aug 6, 2006 against Zimbabwe at Harare Sports Club.

Since his first appearance, the all-rounder has played 166 ODIs and scored 4650 at average 34.70 runs while captured 220 wickets conceding average 28.07 runs.

He made his Test debut in May 2007 against India in Chittagong and played 49 matches so far to collect 3479 runs at an average of 40.92 and bag 176 wickets.

Shakib Al Hasan's Cricketing Career Summary

Shakib, son of Khondoker Masroor Reza and Shirin Reza, appeared T20I against Zimbabwe in November 28, 2006 at Khulna and scored 1159 runs with an average of 23.65 in 57 matches. He also claimed 67 wickets in the shorter version of cricket.

Besides his national team assignment, Shakib played in domestic and overseas league for Khulna Royal Bengals, Dhaka Gladiators, Rangpur Riders, Dhaka Dynamites, Worcestershire, Kolkata Knight Riders, Uthura Rudras, Adelaide Strikers, Peshawar Zalmi, Leicestershire, Barbados Tridents, Melbourne Renegades, Karachi Kings and Jamaica Tallawahs.

Pace bowler Taskin Ahmed, one of the fellows of Shakib, said “We want to win the first match against Sri Lanka and that win will be the birthday gift for Shakib bhai (Brother).”

Taskin was talking to journalist in the pre-match press conference at Dambulla on Friday.

Shakib is now world number one all-rounder having rating points 431 in the Test, 377 in ODI and 346 in T20I. 

He was captain and vice-captain for national side from 2009-2011.

Shakib knotted the tie with Umme Ahmed Shishir in December 2012 and the couple have baby girl Alayna Hasan Aubrey.
