Bangladesh refuse to play in Pakistan
Dhaka: Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has turned down an invitation of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) recently for a two-match T20I series in Pakistan.
“The reports (we get) were not satisfactory enough due to which we had to pull back,” BCB media and communication committee chairman Jalal Younis said while talking to media on Friday.
Bangladesh that played last in Pakistan in July 2008 are one out of four teams, including the West Indies, Ireland and Sri Lanka, those rejected travelling to Pakistan in the last two years.
The PCB proposed to BCB for tour in Pakistan for the series anytime before July in the current year.
In a bid to bring international cricket back to the country, the PCB had extended its invitation to their counterparts in the BCB after they had successfully hosted the Pakistan Super League (PSL) final in Lahore on March 5 taking extensive measures to ensure its security.
Relations between the PCB and BCB had been bitter in the past during the Zaka Ashraf regime as the PCB had stopped communications with the BCB and barred its cricketers who had been auctioned in various teams from featuring in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
“Some of our friends think they (Bangladesh) may tour but I feel they will not because of political concern more than security concerns. But during ICC meeting I will speak to my Bangladesh counterpart and may re-negotiate our tour to Bangladesh this year and ask them to compensate us for not touring Pakistan,” PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan recently told media.
On their last visit to Bangladesh in 2015, the PCB had reportedly taken USD 325,000 and justified it by saying that the series had ‘technically’ been Pakistan's home series. This year, the BCB has rejected all proposals to share revenue although they were open to playing at a neutral venue if necessary.
Zimbabwe is the only nation who sent their team to Pakistan to play international cricket first since the Lahore attacks in 2009.
