Dhaka: Bangladesh cricketer Abdur Razzak and his family members narrowly escaped fatal injuries after a car accident in Vatiapara area in Kashiani upazila of Gopalganj district on Tuesday afternoon.

However, Razzak and his family members, who were returning Dhaka from Khulna after celebrating Eid, are 'out of danger' after receiving preliminary treatment.

According to Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) selector Habibul Bashar, the accident took place when the vehicle, carrying Razzak, his wife and son, his sister and her two daughters, plunged into a roadside ditch after the cricketer lost his control over the steering as a tire of the vehicle got punctured.

Following the incident, locals rescued the injured and sent them to a local hospital.

Bangladesh Test skipper Mushfiqur Rahim shared a message of concern on his facebook page on Tuesday night and requested Bangladesh fans to pray for Razzak.

"Our very own Razzak Raz bhai had a severe accident on his way from Khulna. I request you all to pray for him please!!!" Mushfiqur wrote.

The 35-year-old left-arm veteran spinner Razzak is the third-highest ODI wicket-taker for Bangladesh and one of only the three Bangladesh bowlers to take more than 200 wickets in the format, along with Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and Shakib Al Hasan.

He last appeared for national side on August 27, 2014, in the one off T20I on the tour of West Indies.

He is the long-serving captain of Khulna Division in the National Cricket League and of South Zone in the Bangladesh Cricket League. He also captained Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club in this year's Dhaka Premier League.
