Bangladesh need 170 to win
Dhaka: South African opener Quinton de Kock and AB de Villiers made the opening difficult for Bangladeshi bowlers with their 95 runs partnership. Arafat Sunny sent back de Kock in 44 runs (31) to the pavilion on the 11th over. Nasir Hossain left South Afric in peril by sending back JP Duminy with 6 runs and de Villiers. Mustafizur took the wicket of du Plessis on 17 over.
Bangladesh need 170 runs to win today's match and to balance the T20i series. South Africe scored 169 runs for 4 wickets.
Earlier, South Africa have won the toss and elected to bat in the second and last match of the two-match National Polymer T20 series against Bangladesh at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Tuesday.
The match is scheduled to begin at about 1:00pm.
The Bengal Tigers, who conceded a frustrating 52-run defeat in the first T20 against the Proteas on Sunday, scoring their 3rd lowest 96 in the format due to poor batting, have to do a tough task for leveling the series for a moral boost-up ahead of their favourite ODI series.
Incidentally, Bangladesh have been dismissed for less than 100 runs by South Africa in two consecutive matches on Sunday after they bowled out for 78 runs in their 2011 World Cup and this is for the first time since November that Bangladesh have lost the first game of a series.
In a pre-match press briefing on Monday, Bangladesh opener Souyma Sarkar said they want to prepare for the ODI series winning the 2ndT20 against South Africa on Tuesday.
‘We’ll try our best to take the remaining T20 match in our favour. If we are able to do this then we are in a good position ahead of the ODI series,’ Soumya Sarkar said.
Replying to a query, he said, ‘We’ve failed to execute our plans in the last match that led to our defeat. If we are able to play according to our plans in the second match, we will be successful.’
‘We couldn’t take opportunities that we created in the first game. I hope it won’t repeat in the next game,’ said Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza.
Bangladesh found hasty in chase in the first match. So, Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar, Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan need to execute proper shots in the 2nd game to execute their plan.
Bangladesh is likely to make one change in their previous line-up recruiting leg-spinner Jubair Hossain, who was one of two players to attend training session on Monday, in place of Sohag Gazi, who remained wicket-less in his two overs.
