Dhaka: South Africa have defeated Bangladesh by eight wickets in the first ODI of the three match ODI series at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium at Mirpur in Dhaka on Friday.

Faf du Plesis scored 63 runs while Rielee Rossouw scored 45 runs for South Africa. Both of them were unbeaten.

Earlier, Bangladesh were all out for 160 runs in 36.3 overs.

Sakib Al Hasan was the highest scorer for Bangladesh with 48 runs. Nasir Hossain scored 31 runs and Soumya Sarkar added 27 runs.

Debutant South African pacer Kagiso Rabada bagged 6 wickets for 16 runs with a hat-trick to restrict Tigers for 160 runs.

The 20-year-old, Kagiso Rabada’s six wickets for 16 runs is the best figure in ODI on debut. His hat-trick is the 3rd ODI hat-trick for South Africa after Charl Langeveldt in 2005 and Jean Paul Duminy in 2015, which is overall 39th hat-trick in ODI format.

Due to rain the match was curtailed to 40 overs.
