Now Pakistan to summon Bangladesh envoy
Dhaka: Pakistan has decided to summon Bangladesh’s envoy to lodge a protest and convey Islamabad’s concerns over the recent executions of two war criminals in Bangladesh, reports Pakistan media.
A Pakistan lawmaker, Sheikh Aftab Ahmad, told lawmakers at their National Assembly on Wednesday, says The Express Tribune report on Thursday.
The announcement a day after Pakistan lawmakers unanimously decried the war crimes trials and urged the Pakistani government to take up the matter in the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
Bangladesh High Commissioner in Islamabad Suhrab Hossain could not be contacted yet.
Earlier, on 23 November, Bangladesh government formally lodged a strongly-worded protest with Pakistan for its remarks on execution of two war criminals who sided with the Pakistan occupation forces committing atrocities against pro-liberation people.
On 22 November, Pakistani High Commissioner in Dhaka Shuja Alam who was summoned met Foreign Secretary (Bilateral and Consular) Mizanur Rahman for Pakistan’s remarks over Bangladesh war criminals’ execution.
BNP leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhury and Jamaat-e-Islami secretary general Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed were executed by hanging at 12:55am on Sunday for their crimes committed against humanity during the Independence war in 1971.
