Sri Lankan President to visit Bangladesh Thursday
Dhaka: Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena arrives here on Thursday on a three-day official visit to Bangladesh.
Sirisena will hold a meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and meet President Abdul Hamid during the visit apart from his other engagements, a senior official told news agency UNB.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam will brief media on the Sri Lankan President's visit on Wednesday afternoon at the Foreign Ministry.
This is going to be Sirisena's first official visit to Bangladesh since he was elected Sri Lankan President in 2015.
The two countries are expected to sign several documents in the areas of ICT, mass media, sea connectivity and education during the visit, aimed at bolstering bilateral ties further, Foreign Ministry sources said.
The two countries will discuss ways and means to strengthen bilateral cooperation and develop close trade and economic links between the two countries, said the official.
Meanwhile, the 3rd Foreign Office Consultations between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, co-chaired by the Foreign Secretaries of the two countries, was held on July 4.
Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haque and his Sri Lankan counterpart Esala Weerakoon led the respective sides at the meeting.
