10 BSF men killed in plane crash in Delhi
New Delhi, India: At least 10 BSF troopers were killed when a chartered plane crashed a few minutes after take-off from the IGI airport here on Tuesday morning, officials said.
‘All 10 Border Security Force troopers have been killed,’ fire officials said.
The incident took place at Shahabad village in Dwarka area of the national capital where the Beechcraft Super King plane collided into a house and caught fire.
Twenty fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the flames.
Emergency workers were carrying out relief and rescue operations after the plane crashed shortly after take-off from the capital’s Indira Gandhi International airport, reports AFP.
The twin-engine plane was on its way to Ranchi in eastern Jharkhand state and was carrying members of India’s Border Security Force.
‘The crash took place at about 9:50am (0420 GMT) moments after the technicians lost contact with ground control,’ A. K. Sharma, director of Delhi Fire Services, told AFP.
‘Three bodies have been retrieved from the accident site so far.’
Television footage showed security personnel clearing the area as fire engines waited on the side.
