On a day when senior army officers of India and China held a meeting in eastern Ladakh to discuss peace, Xinhua News Agency — China’s official press agency — posted a video on Twitter mocking India over the Doka La stand-off.

India and China have been locked in a face-off in the Doka La area of the Sikkim sector for the last 50 days after Indian troops stopped the Chinese People’s Liberation Army from building a road in the area.

China has been ramping up rhetoric against India over the last few weeks, demanding the immediate withdrawal of Indian troops from Doka La.

Chinese state media has carried a barrage of articles critical of India on the stand-off, reports the Press Trust of India.

But Xinhua’s video mocking India over the issue and pointing out its ‘seven sins’ is an unusual way of opposing India’s stand.

‘China has realised it’s impossible to awaken a guy who’s pretending to be asleep,’ says the narrator in the video. You guessed it: The guy pretending to be asleep refers to India.

The video also shows a man — supposed to represent India — with moustache and beard wearing a turban, clearly based on the racial stereotypes. The man also attempts to make fun of the Indian accent by talking in a way associated with Indians.

The video then lists the seven ‘sins’ of India which include trespassing, violating bilateral convention and trampling international law.

The narrator even says at one point of time: ‘Didn’t your mama tell you never break the law (sic)?’

Even though the video is supposed to be funny, there are clear signs of aggression and anger in the video, which signifies how tense the situation between the two countries has actually become.
