Turkey reaffirms support to Ronhingyas
Astana: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Sunday pledged that Turkey will continue its support to Ronhingya people taking shelter in Bangladesh amid persecution by Myanmar forces, reports UNB.
He came up with the pledge during a bilateral meeting with its Bangladesh counterpart Abdul Hamid on the side-lines of the first OIC Summit on Science and Technology at the Palace of Independence in Astana, Kazakhstan in the afternoon.
President Hamid’s Press Secretary Joynal Abedin briefed reporters after the meeting.
Erdogan said Turkey has already sent to 1,000 tonnes of humanitarian aid for Rohingyas and will send additional 10,000 tonnes of aid for them soon.
He also informed Bangladesh’s President that his country will take steps to pursue other countries so that they send their aids to Rohingyas through Bangladesh.
Appreciating the Bangladesh government and its people for giving shelter to Rohingyas, the Turkish President said Turkey will always stand by the Rohingyas, the world’s worst persecuted community.
Top officials from both Bangladesh and Turkey were present during the meeting.
