A 33-year old man in Kozhikode, a coastal city in the south Indian state of Kerala, was arrested on Sunday on the charge of sexually assaulting a woman in a deserted lane here last week after a CCTV footage of the incident went viral on the social media.

Jamsher was arrested following a search based on the visuals of the incident that had occurred on October 18 afternoon, the police said, reports the Press Trust of India.

Footage from the CCTV camera, installed at a private residence in the area, showed a man accosting the young woman and assaulting her in the narrow lane.

The man, a short while later, was seen running away from the scene followed by his victim.

Taking note that the video was being shared on social media sites since on Saturday, the police registered a case and after investigations arrested Jamsher.

He has been booked for assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty under the Indian Penal Code, the police said.
