A 37-year-old man has been cleared by the Court of First Instance of the charge of molesting a roommate’s teen daughter.

The Filipino man, who is a security guard, was accused of taking advantage of sharing the same room with the girl’s mother, also Filipina, to touch the 12-year-old girl as she slept, reports the Albawaba.

However, the reason behind the court acquittal ruling was not immediately known.

The incident was reported to Bur Dubai police station. The girl, a 12-year-old Filipina student, said few hours prior to the incident, she saw the accused inappropriately dressed while drinking alcohol with his friends in the living room.

‘At around 3.30am, while I was sleeping I felt someone groping me and touching my back. I opened my eyes and I was shocked to see it was the defendant. At that moment, a flatmate entered the room and took him away.’

The girl’s mother, a 45-year-old Filipina training coach, said the defendant had been drinking alcohol prior to the incident.

‘I rushed to the other room where the flat owner had moved my daughter to. I saw her in a state of panic and not able to speak,’ the mother told the prosecutor.

The court ruling remains subject to appeal by the prosecution.
