Horrific footage of the dog meat trade in Indonesia have emerged. Videos show how dogs – including small puppies – are tied and bound then left to look on as other animals are beheaded and cut up for meat.

Dogs, some pets that have been snatched from their owner’s home, are tied up and stuffed into plastic sacks or tiny cages before being transported to ‘slaughter houses’ where they are brutally killed, reports the Metro.

Denied a quick or painless death, many of the dogs are slowly hacked to death with knives or meat cleavers.

Disturbing footage shows how many of the dogs are bleeding or have their jaws bound so tightly they can’t bark.

Just a small minority of Indonesians eat dog meat, the industry continues to thrive and around one million dogs are thought to be slaughtered each year.

Hordes of dogs are packed into bags or cages and then taken on long and overcrowded journeys to slaughterhouses, markets or restaurants.

Some of the animals due to suffocation or dehydration before they even reach their destination.

Groups such as Dog Meat Free Indonesia are campaigning to bring an end to the sale of canine meat.
