BD Armed Forces Day observed in New Delhi

New Delhi: Bangladesh Armed Forces Day was observed in New Delhi on Tuesday with tributes paid to father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the martyrs of the 1971 War of Liberation.

The Defence Wing of Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi hosted a reception to mark the momentous occasion when Bangladesh Armed Forces started their journey on November 21 in 1971, reports the UNB.

Since the birth of Bangladesh, Armed Forces has been forceful, futuristic and adherent to the development of the nation.

Governor of Mizoram state Lt Gen (retd) Nirbhay Sharma, Indian Defence Secretary Sanjay Mitra and High Commissioner Syed Muazzem Ali spoke at the reception. Defence Adviser at Bangladesh High Commission Brig Gen Abul Kalam Mohammad Ziaur Rahman presented his welcome address.

The speakers praised the role of Bangladesh Armed Forces starting from the liberation war to the nation building and in the UN peacekeeping.

They also recalled the role of Bangabandhu in mobilising the nation in the struggle for independence and laying the foundation for the country’s dynamic Armed Forces.

Foreign diplomats, Indian war veterans, who fought in the 1971 liberation war, friends of Bangladesh, high military and civil officials from India and Bangladesh, academics and journalists attended the reception.
