Srinagar:  In a horrific act, a woman in Anantnag district of south Kashmir in India killed her two children before grievously injuring herself ‘to teach her husband a lesson’, police claimed on Thursday.

According to a police statement, Ruqiya Begam took the extreme step on 13 January in Khatti Larnoo village of Kokernag.

The two children — Imran Wagay, 4 and his sister Chandni, 2 — were killed and the mother was also found injured.

‘After killing her children, she attempted to commit suicide with the same weapon of offence,’ the statement read.

‘In pursuance to this case the investigation was taken up by a special investigating team.

‘She (mother) wanted to teach a lesson to her husband by killing the children as she suspected that her husband had an extra-marital affair with a woman in her neighbourhood,’ the statement further read.

The investigation was going on and the SIT was meticulously looking for evidence and reasons behind the ‘heinous crime’.
