Man, 53, died at fetish festival 'after taking lethal dose
A 53-year-old man died at a woodland sex fetish festival after taking a lethal dose of MDMA, an inquest has heard.
Steven Graves was found lying outside his tent with a woman unconscious on his chest on August 22 at Flamefest in Tunbridge Wells, Kent.
He met a woman at the festival, the pair became intimate and started camping together, the inquest in Maidstone was told on Monday.
They had each taken a pill offered by a stranger who said it was ecstasy shortly before Graves was found dead, reports the Mirror.
Geoffrey Smith, assistant coroner for north-west Kent, concluded his death was drug-related after he ingested a "lethal dose" of the drug.
Graves used to work as a technician for engineering consultancy Amec Foster Wheeler in Horsham, West Sussex, but was made redundant in May, the inquest heard.
No family members attended the hearing. The court was told Graves, who lived in Surrey, is survived by a son - his only known remaining relative.
A post-mortem found Graves consumed "excessive amounts of alcohol" and the toxicology report revealed he had 11.09mg of MDMA, the drug known as ecstasy, per one litre of blood in his system, which was described as lethal.
Smith said: "It's plain to me that the deceased died from ingesting a lethal dose of MDMA and that was the reason for his death."
Around 250 people were thought to have attended the second year of Flamefest, which described itself as a place where campers can take part in erotic workshops to "explore pain, experience pleasure and fulfil fantasies".
Organiser Helen Smedley created the festival "to bring together the purest, most hedonistic elements of the party scene", according to its website.
Tickets reportedly cost up to £600 and included access to an adult play area, a sadism and masochism dungeon, music and performances.
A small group of revellers had been given permission to camp a little longer on the site after the event had finished.
