Agartala: India-Bangladesh relations will further improve as bus services between the two countries improve leading to more trade, Tripura Governor Tathagata Roy said on Tuesday.

‘Direct bus services between northeastern states and Kolkata via Bangladesh have been spread out and the number of passenger bus trips between Agartala, Kolkata, Shillong and Guwahati and Dhaka have increased,’ Roy said after unfurling the tricolour at the Assam Rifles Ground in Agartala on the occasion of Republic Day.

He said: ‘A Land Customs Station has been developed at the Integrated Development Complex (IDC) to further increase the trade between India and Bangladesh.’

Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurated the IDC at Srimantapur along Bangladesh in western Tripura.

The governor said that to boost local trade, two ‘border haats’ (border markets) have been set up in southern Tripura and western Tripura.

‘Two more ‘border haats’ will be set up in northern Tripura, and people on both sides of the border will get to sell their products.’

The governor also said that Tripura was the first in the northeastern region to introduce the national food security act.
