Nagpur, India: The Nagpur police on Tuesday arrested nine Bangladeshi nationals, including three women, for staying in the city for several years after illegally entering into the country, reports The Times of India.

On a tip off, a team of Tehsil police conducted raid in Mominpura on Tuesday morning, where these Bangladeshi nationals were staying. These persons failed to produce their passports and other documents.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Madhukar Pandey told TOI that these people had given money to agents to allow them to cross over to the Indian border. The arrested include four men, three women and two children and they have been identified as Parveen Banu, 24, Shabana alias Shefali Azmi, 24, Nazma Begum, 40, her four children–Mohammed Razaul Haq, 20, Mohammed Arif, 18, Mohammed Rasheed, 11 and Ibrahim, 9 – Din Islam Mubaraq Hussain, 26 and Mohammed Pappu Khan Siraz Khan, 32.

Some of the illegal immigrants had come to India recently. Some even applied for passports, ration cards, voter's identity cards by furnishing fake documents. They were working in local eateries and some were daily wagers, said a source.

One of the arrested women - Parveen Banu had married notorious goon Shaikh Shabbir Gaffur and was staying in the city for the last five years. Gaffur had committed serious offences which have been registered with Tehsil police station, said DCP Pandey.

Nazma Begum, was staying illegally in the city for the last 20 years and after her husband's death she worked in Tanveer hotel to earn livelihood. ‘Though Nazma confessed to have been staying in Nagpur illegally, however, she claimed that her four children were born in India,’ said Pandey.

Of her children, Mohammed Arif is studying in first year BCA in a city-based college, while the two youngest children were also going to school in Mominpura.

While Shabana Azmi was married to one Shaikh Zaleel (a resident of Balaghat and presently staying in Mominpura), who is a waiter at Tanveer Hotel. Police sources said last year Jaripatka police had arrested Shabana's parents - Mohammed Alam, 45 and Noor Banu, 40 for staying illegally in the city and were deported to Bangladesh.

However, police have issued notices to three persons - Sazda Begum (55), Noor Banu (26) and Begum Banu (45) for providing shelters to the illegal migrants, to produce the evidence of their nationality before them. DCP Madhukar Pandey has informed that the police would also initiate action against the owner of Tanveer hotel for employing illegal migrant in his hotel.

Meanwhile, the Tehsil police have started the procedure of deporting all the nine persons to Bangladesh.

The arrests came amid the high alert sounded last Monday following a tip-off about anti-social elements disrupting peace.

With the arrest of these illegal migrants, police sources indicated loopholes in the security system in bordering areas of the country. ‘Had there been any foolproof system, then their entries could have been prevented,’ said the source. The loopholes could be gauged with the past records too.
