Dhaka: Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chawdhury on Saturday said the South Asian countries have set a brilliant example of women leadership.

‘The South Asian counties have set up a bright example for the rest of the world for women leadership by ensuring national progress under the women leadership,’ she said.

Shirin Sharmin, also chairperson of the Commonwealth Parliamentary

Association executive committee, came up with the observation in the plenary session of Indian women legislators’ national conference organised by Indian Parliament.

Describing women leadership as a social changing agent, the Speaker said women’s decisions for education, health, women and children are good for human beings.

She also said that the Prime Minister, leader of the opposition and Speaker of Jatiya Sangsad of Bangladesh are women and the country has been able to achieve the Millennium Development Goal under their leadership which transformed Bangladesh into a middle-income country from a low income one.

Lauding the initiative taken by the Indian lawmakers, Dr Shirin said such dialogue would help the Indian female lawmakers to boost their contribution to the country’s development.

Indian External Affairs Minister Shushma Swaraj and Minority Affairs Minister Dr Nazma A Heptullah also spoke on the occasion.
