SAARC foreign ministers meet Thursday in Nepal

Dhaka: Foreign ministers from the SAARC member states will meet in Pokhara, the second largest city of Himalayan country of Nepal, on Thursday to review the progress in the SAARC process ahead of its upcoming summit.

The foreign ministers of the SAARC member states will review a wide range of common issues, including connectivity, development, trade and terrorism, UNB on Wednesday.

Bangladesh Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali left for Nepal on Wednesday afternoon to attend the meeting, said an official at the Foreign Ministry.

The meeting is also known as an inter-summit of the regional grouping, generally held halfway between two SAARC summits.

The SAARC member states are Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Nepal is the current chair of the regional bloc and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Kamal Thapa will chair the foreign ministers’ meet.

Pakistan is set to host the 19th summit in November. The 18th summit was held in Kathmandu in November 2014.

The 52nd programming committee and 42nd SAARC Standing Committee meetings have already been held attended by the Foreign Secretaries and Joint Secretaries.
