After almost two years, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi brought back the issue of illegal influx from Bangladesh to attack the ruling congress in Assam.

Modi who addressed as many as four election rallies in Assam on Saturday said, ‘ We are working to ensure that there will not influx in Assam, the new BJP government will ensure that those who are here are send out,’ reports The Economic Times.

BJP government in Centre faced ire of several organisation after it passed the Indo-Bangladesh land swap agreement in parliament.

Modi said, ‘Infiltrators are considered as own while Assamese are not considered own. They (infiltrators) are given everything on golden platter.’

Modi also racked up the issue of killing of one horn Rhino in Assam. ‘Two days back we have done an agreement with Bangladesh for internet gateway. Assam and Northeast India will hugely benefit from this agreement as there will more bandwidth available now.

Modi has made illegal influx and killing of Rhino as election issue in Lok Sabha polls in 2014.

Modi launched broadside on ruling congress in Assam and said that congress eat up the river island of Majul and reduced its size from 1200 sq km to 400 km sq km.

Modi who was addressing election rally in Majuli from where BJP's chief ministerial candidate Sarbananda Sonowal is contesting said, ‘Congress has done grave injustice to Assam. Congress has the habit of eating money however I never knew that it eat up beautiful island of Majuli which is largest sweet water island of Asia, a heritage of India.'

Modi added that this small place of Majuli is the Vashnavite centre.’ Those states where BJP is ruling or ruled had seen fast development be it be Karnataka, Gao, Maharastra, Gujarat, Punjab, Madhy Pradesh, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Haryana. Those states ruled by congress there is no development.'

The prime minister said that despite having natural resources there is under development and unemployment in Assam. ‘Per capita power consumption of Assam is abysmally low. Around 40 percent people live in darkness.’

He said that the state government is day in and day out busy in Modi bashing. Modi added his fight is not against Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi but against poverty and under development of Assam.

‘ Soon Gogoi will turn 90 years, it is our culture to respect old and elderly people gives blessings to younger. I do not intend to fight with Gogoi.’

Tarun Gogoi has recently said that his fight is against Modi in this assembly polls. Assam will have two phase polls on April 4 and 11.

Modi said ‘ Around 2000 villages do not have electricity. NDA government in less than two years have started electricity connection in around 1000 villages. There is CAG report, Assam government is yet to give proper accounts of money spent. Money meant for building houses of poor are thrashed in bank account. Assam government has not used a large sum of it. Assam has one of highest rate of infant mortality and maternal mortality.’
