75 killed, over 200 injured in massive fire at Indian temple
Over 75 people died and more than 200 were injured due to festive firework at an Indian temple on Sunday morning.
The accident happened at about 3.30am.
The fire broke at Puttingal temple in Paravur in the Indian state of Kerala, police say, reports BBC.
‘The fire began when a firework sparked explosions in a store of fireworks ready for celebrations at the end of a festival, local media reports say.’
‘According to the police, the conclusion of Puttingal temple festival is marked by fireworks which began at about 1:00am. It is believed that the firework sparked firecrackers stored in the storage shed leading to a huge explosion.’
‘People with serious burn injury have been admitted to government medical college, Thiruvananthapuram. Others with minor burns/injuries have been admitted to various hospitals at Meeyapuram and Kottiyam.’
‘Chief minister Oommen Chandy and other senior ministers have rushed to the spot.’
