Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India has never attacked any country or coveted anyone’s territory, but has made supreme sacrifice by fighting for other nations.

‘India is neither hungry for any territory nor attacked anyone. But in the two World Wars, in which India had no direct stake, 1.5 lakh Indians died fighting for other nations. We are a nation that had laid down lives for others,’ Modi said on Sunday, reports Press Trust of India.

‘The Prime Minister’s remarks, made while inaugurating the Pravasi Bhartiya Kendra on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi,  came amid escalating tension between Indian and Pakistan after the Uri attack.’

‘Meanwhile on the other side of the border, Pakistani military officials took busloads of local and foreign journalists to two forward positions on their side of the LoC to show them there were ‘no surgical strikes’. In a desparate attempt to change the narrative on India’s attack on terrorist launchpads in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, the Pakistani Army reportedly made attempts to establish that there was only cross-border firing.’

‘Rajnath to visit J&K: As part of the Centre’s outreach to Jammu and Kashmir, Home Minister Rajnath Singh will undertake a two-day visit to the Ladakh region on Monday and Tuesday. He is expected to interact with a cross-section of people in the region. Singh will also hold meetings with delegations of political parties, civil society groups and individuals in Leh and in Kargil.’
