Pilot suffers heart attack on runway
Dutch airline KLM says one of its pilots suffered a heart attack while taxiing to the runway at Glasgow Airport in Scotland for a flight to Amsterdam.
The airline says in a statement that the crew of the aircraft and a passenger resuscitated the captain. He was taken to a hospital.
The co-pilot brought the plane back to the gate, where ambulance crews met the plane on Friday evening. The flight was cancelled and passengers were rebooked, reports Associated Press.
The Scotsman reports that the co-pilot of the plane, which was carrying 128 people, took the plane back to the gate.
The plane was meant to take off at about 5:00pm but was eventually cancelled and passengers had their flights rebooked.
Speaking to the BBC, a spokeswoman for KLM said: ‘During taxiing to the runway on this KLM flight to Amsterdam the captain became unwell and the staff treated him with the help of a passenger.
‘He was taken to hospital where his condition is stable.’
According to the Guardian, a spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: ‘We took a call that a man was having a heart attack at Glasgow airport. We attended the scene and arrived at 5:25pm.’
