BSF red faced over Salahuddin’s easy entry

Dhaka: The Border Security Force (BSF) of India is red faced as to how Bangladesh Nationalist Party joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed managed to sneak in to India, reports The Shillong Times. According to a report published on 14 May, the newspaper quoting BSF PRO SK Singh reports BSF does not know how he must have crossed over to India saying BSF manages 440 kilometres of Indo-Bangla border in Meghalaya.
The Shillong Times report says the BSF official has also ruled out any inquiry into the incident.
Salahuddin Ahmed who was reported missing since 10 March last surfaced in Pynthorumkhrah locality on Tuesday (12 May) early morning and Meghalaya police arrested him immediately for entering India without valid documents.
The report also asserts that there may be gaps along the border which may have been used by Salahuddin Ahmed to cross over to Meghalaya from Bangladesh.
It is also mentioned in the report that border fencing has been completed in the jurisdiction of eight out of nine BSF Companies deployed in the border in Meghalaya.
‘Border fencing work is going on in Dawki and Western side and around 55-60 km of border is yet to be fenced,’ Singh said.
