However, it could not be known when the envoy will be here. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday summoned Myanmar Ambassador in Dhaka Myo Myint Than and demanded early repatriation of all Myanmar nationals staying in the country.
Bangladesh also expressed its readiness to engage with Myanmar to discuss process and modalities of repatriation with Myanmar.
The Myanmar envoy conveyed to Bangladesh foreign ministry that his government is sending a special envoy to look into the issue.
‘He (Myint Than) conveyed us that a special envoy will come to Bangladesh. They will let us know the date of arrival of their special envoy,’ Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haque was quoted by BBC Bangla as saying.
Bangladesh on Thursday requested the Myanmar government to urgently address the root cause of the problem in the Rakhine State so that Rakhine Muslims are not required to desperately seek shelter across the border.
Secretary (bilateral and consular) at the foreign ministry Kamrul Ahsan conveyed it to Myanmar when Ambassador Myo Myint Than was summoned at the ministry.
During the meeting, Ahsan expressed deep concern at the continued influx of Muslims from the Rakhine State into Bangladesh.
He mentioned that around 50,000 Myanmar citizens have taken shelter in Bangladesh since the influx on October 9.
