Professor Yunus addressed a plenary session of the 104th Indian Science Congress on 4 January. The auditorium of Sri Venkateswaran University in Tirupati in Indian State of Andhra, the venue of the congress, was full to the brim with scientists, students and others coming from all over India. Professor Yunus in his hour-long speech explained the latest progress of the social business all over the world and especially in India, says a press release.

He explained the finer points of this concept of non-dividend business to solve social problem. In a hall full of India’s brightest young scientists and young technologists he asked them to be entrepreneurs, not job seekers and create new ideas in social business so as to banish forever poverty, unemployment, carbon emission - the three zeros advocated by him.

Professor Yunus pointed out the extreme concentration of wealth in the hands of a few people, and said that only the millions of young entrepreneurs can stop this dangerous trend of continuous concentration of wealth. Lecture was followed by questions asked by an almost endless number of members of

audience especially young scientists. A major theme that came from his answers was that technology research is at present directed to the needs of the profit earning businesses. If it is directed exclusively to social goals by the new generation of young technologists, much of the problems of poverty, joblessness and small enterprise success which seem to be insurmountable today will not be there. Audience gave him a standing ovation at the end of session.

General President of 104th Indian Science Congress Professor Narain Rao presided over the event and conducted the question and answer session.
