Mamata calls LBA ‘historic deal’
Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee termed the Land Boundary Agreement (LBA), which has been signed between India and Bangladesh recently, as a historic treaty.
Mamata reached Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport at Dum Dum in Kolkata at about 12:45am (Indian time) after her brief visit to Dhaka.
Mamata told the journalists at the airport, ‘There is nothing new to say on LBA. The enclaves’ people got freedom after a long period of sorrows.’
The WB chief said the historic land boundary pact opened a new horizon for the people of the enclaves.
Mamata did not make any comment on Teesta water-sharing treaty.
She went to her Kalighat residence from the airport.
Earlier, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina during Mamata’s visit in Dhaka requested the WB chief to stay till Sunday, but Mamata could not accept the request.
Some State officials said that Mamata had to leave Dhaka as she has some official works to complete.
West Bengal government secretariat, Nabanna, said a board may form with the river experts of West Bengal for the Teesta water-sharing agreement. Mamata may approve the Teesta treaty examining the reports by the board.
